Washington, DC, March 28, 2017 — Cozen O’Connor Public Strategies today announced the addition of health policy counsel Allison Wils to the Washington, D.C., office. Bringing experience across telemedicine, benefits, health policy reform, and other regulatory issues, Wils will advise clients on myriad health care matters at the federal and state level. Wils will also be counsel to the law firm Cozen O’Connor.

Wils will support advocacy efforts before relevant government decision makers in Congress and the executive branch and will assist clients in navigating the complex regulatory challenges facing the health care industry. In addition, Wils will lend her experience with shaping regulation and legislation on the state level to advise clients on government relations and policy strategy across the country. She will also monitor and analyze federal and state activity impacting health care.

“Given the critical status of health care reform, clients are turning to us more than ever for assistance in helping effect policy change,” said Mark Alderman. “Allison’s addition comes at a pivotal time. Her regulatory and policy experience, particularly her understanding of innovative areas such as telemedicine, will be invaluable to our team and clients.”

Prior to joining Cozen O’Connor Public Strategies, Wils was the executive director of state programs and the senior director of health policy for The ERISA Industry Committee (ERIC), which represents America’s largest employers on health, retirement, and compensation issues. At ERIC, Wils developed two nationwide initiatives focused on state laws and regulations concerning employee benefits, including telemedicine, biologics/biosimilars, and leave issues. Wils also provided policy expertise on a variety of other federal issues and state activities impacting health benefits.

"I am thrilled to join Cozen O'Connor Public Strategies and believe my health care experience will further bolster the firm's high-quality, effective advocacy in this space," Wils said. “There is great opportunity to affect health care policy in numerous dimensions of government, and I could not be more excited to continue my career learning from this established team with an expansive reach in Washington, D.C. and around the country.”

Before her position at ERIC, Wils specialized in health policy reform and implementation efforts at the National Academy for State Health Policy (NASHP), focusing on insurance exchanges. Before joining NASHP, Wils worked on the operations and policy teams of Oregon’s health insurance exchange. Additionally, Wils has legal and regulatory experience working with state regulatory boards at the Oregon Department of Justice.

Wils holds a B.A. and J.D. from Willamette University College of Law, where she initiated a program in health law and policy and was awarded the college’s first-ever Certificate in Law and Government with an Emphasis in Health Law and Policy.
