Mayor Adams Announces New Trash Pickup Rules to Combat City’s Rat Problem

Last Monday, Mayor Eric Adams and Department of Sanitation (DSNY) Commissioner Jessica Tisch announced a proposed rule change to trash pickup in New York City. Currently, trash bags can be placed onto the curb as early as 4 p.m. the night before a scheduled pickup day. Under the newly proposed rules, trash in a secure container can be put out at 6 p.m. and trash bags can be placed on the curb at 8 p.m. This change is designed to combat the citywide rat problem.

Mayor Adams Announces Two Administration Appointments

Last week, Mayor Adams announced two new appointments to his Administration. The Mayor named Hassan Naveed as the Executive Director of the New York City Office for the Prevention of Hate Crimes (OPHC). In this role, Naveed will be organizing interagency efforts to combat hate crimes through community-based programs and providing victim support. Additionally, Marcella Tillett has been selected as the Executive Director of the Mayor’s Fund to Advance New York City. Tillett most recently served as Vice President of Programs and Partnership at Brooklyn Community Foundation and as a senior leader at Planned Parenthood of New York City.

Zakariah Malik Named Among 2022 City & State New York’s 40 Under 40

Cozen O’Connor is pleased to announce that Zakariah Malik has been selected as a recipient of City & State’s 40 Under 40. This list features individuals who are shaping New York City politics and policy. In his role as Policy Adviser, Malik assists nonprofit clients in securing funding for capital projects and programming. Malik has an interest in education programming, and stated that his team secured almost $50 million in funding on behalf of nonprofit clients this past year.
