Deputy Mayor for Strategic Initiatives

Mayor Adams has appointed Ana Almanzar as Deputy Mayor for Strategic Initiatives. In her new role, Almanzar will be overseeing the commissioners and executive directors of CUNY, the Department of Youth and Community Development, the Mayor’s Office of Equity, the Mayor’s Office of Food Policy, the Mayor’s Office of Nonprofits, and the Mayor’s Fund. Almanzar succeeds previous Deputy Mayor and current First Deputy Mayor Sheena Wright, and will begin the role in early June. She previously served as the Director of Community Relations at Mother Cabrini Health Foundation.

End of NYS Legislative Session

The New York State Legislature is wrapping up the legislative session this week, with the last day of session scheduled for this Thursday, June 8. State lawmakers are working on end-of-session agreements on a variety of issues, including housing and environmental legislation. One major piece of legislation is the NY Privacy Act, which would impose strict new disclosure and licensing requirements on all legal entities that access, collect, and/or sell data from online sources. 2023 LGBTQ+ Power Players

Rose Christ has been named to Politics NY’s 2023 LGBTQ+ Power Players. The list honors government and policymaking leaders fighting for equity on all fronts. Christ, Co-Chair of the NY Public Strategies Practice, stated that she hopes to see NY continue as a sanctuary state for the LGBTQ+ community, and extend intrastate services to reach trans youth
