Former President Donald Trump (R) had a decisive win with a projected 292 of the electoral votes and currently winning the popular vote by 51% over Vice President Kamala Harris (D) who received a projected 224 of the electoral college votes and 47.5% of the popular vote. Trump won in the key swing states of Pennsylvania and Wisconsin, and Michigan.
Kamala Harris won the popular vote in Illinois with 53.4% of the vote over Donald Trump’s 45.2% of the vote.
All 17 seats of Illinois’ Congressional delegation were up for election this November. At this time, all 17 incumbents won their respective races. 14 Democrats and 3 Republican incumbents were able to secure their seat in the House. The contested races were in northwest and central region of Illinois with their election results included below:
All Illinois House members were on the ballot this November. As expected, the House Democrats have maintained their supermajority in the Senate with 76 Democrats having won their elections thus far. Republicans have won back 36 seats in the House. There are still some contested races that have not been declared. We are still waiting for the election results of six races that are favoring their incumbents.

Illinois maintains their majority in the Senate with 39 Democrats and 19 Republicans. The Senate had 24 seats up for re-election. 19 Senate Democrats and 4 Senate Republicans have been able to secure their re-election. Currently, only the 46th District has not declared a winner, but incumbent Senator Koehler of the 46th District is the projected winner with 57% of the vote.
An overview of key contested Illinois Senate races and their outcomes are below.
The former Appellate Court Judge Eileen O’Neill Burke won against former Chicago Ald. Bob Fioretti with 65% of the vote against Fioretti’s 30.6% of the vote. Libertarian candidate Andrew Kopinski got a little more than 4% of the vote.
Eileen O’Neill Burke was favored to win in a county that has not elected a Republican in over three decades.
Current Metropolitan Water Reclamation District of Greater Chicago Board Commissioner Mariyana Spyropoulos is the projected winner for Cook County Circuit Clerk with 66% of the vote. Mariyana Spyropoulos defeated Republican candidate Lupe Aguirre who received 27.5% of the votes and Libertarian candidate who received 6.5% of the vote.
Cook County Board Member, Monica Gordon (D) defeated her opponent, Michelle Pennington (R) and Libertarian opponent, Christopher Laurent with more than 65% of the vote. Monica Gordon was appointed to the position by the Cook County Democratic party after the passing of former Cook County Clerk Karen Yarborough in April. Gordon is expected to finish the remaining two years of the late clerk Karen Yarborough.
Cook County Board Commissioner Tara Stamps (D-1),won against Libertarian candidate James Humay with 89.5% of the vote. Stamps was appointed last summer to fill the vacancy on the board left by Mayor Brandon Johnson’s election.
Cook County Board Commissioner Michael Scott Jr. (D-2) has won re-election after running unopposed. He was appointed to the Cook County Board of Commissioners following the death of late Cook County Board Commissioner Dennis Deer who passed away in June.
Larry Rogers, a longtime commissioner of the Cook County Board of Review, has won re-election against Libertarian candidate Nico Tsatsoulis. Rogers received 78.5% of the vote.
This election, Illinois had three advisory referendums on the ballot due to Senate Bill 2412 that put these questions on the ballot this November. The bill was sponsored by Rep. Jay Hoffman and Senate President Harmon which passed the two chambers this past spring . These are advisory questions and do not have the power to enact new laws in Illinois.
