Click-to-Cancel Rule Takes Effect in New York City

Mayor Zohran Mamdani, the Department of Consumer and Worker Protection (DCWP), and the Office of Technology and Innovation announced that New York City’s Click-to-Cancel rule took effect on October 1, giving the City authority to enforce requirements for straightforward subscription cancellation processes. Businesses that make it difficult for consumers to cancel subscriptions may face restitution and civil penalties beginning at $525 per violation. The administration also launched a new online complaint portal to allow New Yorkers to report subscription-related complaints and connect with DCWP enforcement efforts.

New Affordable Housing Fast Track Designations

Mayor Zohran Mamdani and the Department of City Planning announced the 12 community districts that will be eligible for the voter-approved Affordable Housing Fast Track beginning January 2027. The program will apply a streamlined 90-day public review process to eligible affordable housing rezonings in districts that have produced the lowest levels of affordable housing over the past five years.

Mayor Launches SNAP Re-Enrollment Campaign

Mayor Zohran Mamdani announced a citywide outreach campaign to help New Yorkers who lost Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits under expanded federal work requirements reapply for benefits beginning October 1. The effort will focus on reaching approximately 26,500 New Yorkers who lost benefits, reducing administrative barriers to enrollment, helping eligible recipients secure exemptions, and connecting participants to employment, education, and community service opportunities that satisfy federal requirements.
