The New York City Council has filed a lawsuit against Mayor Adams over the opening of a U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) outpost on Rikers Island. The complaint, which was filed in Manhattan State Supreme Court, argues that Adams’ authorization of the ICE office on Rikers Island failed to follow procedure, and additionally that this action was the result of a deal with President Trump. The Council passed a resolution at the most recent Stated meeting authorizing Speaker Adams to take legal action on the issue.
Rep. Elise Stefanik, who represents the North Country of New York State in Congress, is reportedly considering a run for New York Governor. Stefanik is a member of House Republican leadership and was nominated for U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations, before her nomination was pulled in March. She has not formally announced her candidacy yet.

Officials from the Education Department also committed to utilizing city funds to sustain some federally funded Head Start programs amid the federal government’s efforts to cut the program.
