Amy Klobuchar for Governor
Minnesota’s senior U.S. Senator, Amy Klobuchar, officially launched her campaign for Minnesota Governor this morning. The announcement follows weeks of speculation that she would run after two-term Governor Tim Walz announced in early January that he would not seek reelection.
In her launch video, Klobuchar told Minnesotans that “we’ve been through a lot,” saying the moment calls for “grit, resilience, and faith in each other,” and pledging to “stand up for what’s right and fix what’s wrong.” She also positioned her campaign in opposition to what she described as harsh and “abusive” federal immigration enforcement tactics in the state.
Klobuchar has had a long political career in Minnesota and national politics, first serving as Hennepin County Attorney before being elected to the U.S. Senate in 2006. She has been easily reelected every term since—sometimes by as many as 35 points—by appealing to Democrats and Republicans alike.
She is the political juggernaut in the state and, following an unsuccessful presidential run in 2020, has a far-reaching fundraising network and high-profile supporters. Now that she is officially in the race, we anticipate a broad network of donors to mobilize, along with early support from labor unions and party activists.
Several Republicans continue their campaigns for Governor, most notably House Speaker Lisa Demuth, State Representative Kristin Robbins, and MyPillow founder and Trump ally Mike Lindell.
